Our cacao originates in Guatemala and is produced by a cacao collective called Chinimital del Ka’kaw. The cacao is planted and fermented on an ancient farm in Alta Verapaz which belongs to members of the Q'eqchi' nation. The cacao is then taken to the border between the Kaqchikel and Q'iche' nations, and the process of transformation begins in Sololá.
All our cacao tea is artisanal and handmade in the traditional Mayan way, harvested, fermented, sun-dried, hand-roasted in wood fire, and peeled by hand. The husk or shell that is peeled from the roasted cacao bean is what becomes our healthy and delicious cacao tea. The cacao tea is blessed in a ceremony with incense and fire, and sacred Mayan energies are invoked to cleanse, bless, and protect the tea prior to packaging. The cacao tea is then put in a traditional Mayan bag and is delivered to you with love.
